The Things I love
Children’s laughter,
A warm embrace,
The rising sun
With This Ring
One Saturday, I went to the center to pick up papers from my office. Mark working at the front gate, checked my identification. He smiled at me revealing boyish dimples. I melted like strawberry ice-cream on a hot summer’s day. We were immediately attracted to each other. Soon after, he asked me out on a date.
After a short courtship, Mark took me to meet his parents. We spent the day riding in his dad’s old truck chasing cows through the hay fields, strolling through the woods, where we fished in a pond. Late that evening, Mark proposed while an orange sun sank below the woods.

My writing journey began after I entered my article “Separation Anxiety” in the 2012 Guideposts Writers Contest and won. The inspiration for my winning entry came from my oldest son’s return home from the Iraq War. I insisted he live at home while he attended college. After months of treating him like the teenager he was when he first left home, but now a man, I had to trust God and encourage him to move out and live on his own. See “Separation Anxiety” under written works.
After the contest, I continued to write for Guideposts. Before I retired from teaching school, I worked my dream job instructing fifth graders to write great stories using their young imaginations.
